Ancient Civilizations - 4th Grade
This unit is interdisciplinary in nature and uses advanced-level reading and writing instruction to explore the elements that make for a successful civilization.
DROUGHT!
Working in groups, we were faced with a variety of challenging scenarios to discuss. The idea was to brainstorm ideas for survival as a group. Eventually we understood the transformation from survival to a thriving civilization.
Exploring Ancient Civilizations:
In order to better understand the eight main elements of a civilization, we explored a variety of books in search of specific elements.
Critical Thinking Questions:
Once we had an understanding of the elements of a civilization, we worked to come up with critical thinking questions related to two elements we pulled out of a bag. We exchanged out questions with other groups, and they had to try to guess our elements. Thinking critically is not an easy task, but we can handle it!
Our Element Artifacts:
We each chose a civilization or our choice and researched the civilization based on one specific element. We then used our talents to re-create the artifact and compose a plaque to explain the connection of the artifact with our civilization's particular element.
