We Can Dig It - Archaeology - 2nd Grade
This unit is interdisciplinary in nature and uses advanced-level reading and writing instruction to explore archaeology.
Observing a Dig Site:
We used a grid to record artifacts in a "dig site," showing where they were found. We then wrote down our hypotheses of what we thought the site once was.
Examining Artifacts From the Past:
We looked at artifacts from life in the past and tried to come up with what they were, who once used them - and for what reason.
Stratigraphy:
While digging through Mrs. Young's daughter's trashcan, we learned about stratigraphy, the study of the placement of artifacts in specific layers of the earth. Then we went home and did some research on someone to display the layers of that person's life through our amazing projects!
